Disc golf is a popular national and international sport enjoyed by players of all ages and fitness levels. Disc golf offers a chance to improve skill while enjoying nature. Similar to traditional golf, disc golf involves aiming an object toward a target that is a distance away, only instead of a golf ball struck toward a hole it uses a disc thrown into a target basket. The object is to start at the tee and reach the basket in the fewest number of throws. Each consecutive throw is made where the disc landed in the preceding throw. Like in traditional golf, the final throw is called a putt. Trees, water, wind, and varying distances provide course variety and challenges. Unlike traditional golf, disc golf costs very little to play. Equipment needs and costs are minimal. Most disc golf courses are free, with those few that do charge costing very little. Disc golf courses and tournaments are located around the world and the United States. Alabama is home to many fun and challenging courses to be enjoyed by all.
At the 2012 Alabama Mountain Games, we have constructed a professional 20 hole disc golf course that will satisfy even the best of the best. This AMG event will be PDGA sanctioned.
